A Typical Day With A One Year Old
I feel like sometimes when you are “home” with your baby/kids, there are many things that go unnoticed in a normal day of motherhood. My days that I am home with Brooke are busier than the days I go to work. I am home with Brooke 3-4 days a week and LOVE it! So, what do we do all day? Let me tell you 🙂
6am- Brooke wakes up, she gets a bottle and then she likes to eat either a banana or bread with peanut butter. This isn’t her breakfast, but my husband gets up for work at the same time, and when he eats, she has to eat with him. Kinda cute I think 🙂
6am-7am- We play (well she plays while I try to wake up with some coffee)
7am- I give her another bottle and lay her down for a morning nap. She typically sleeps 1 hour, but lately she has been taking longer morning naps (around 2 hours) and shorter afternoon naps.
During this time of her nap I get myself ready for the day, wash bottles, clean up, take care of our dogs, get some work done and before you know it she is up! Some mornings I lay down for another hour if I am feeling completely exhausted. I use to beat myself up about that, but now I have learned to let it go and sleep if I need the sleep!
9am- Brooke wakes up from her nap and I start making breakfast. We typically eat eggs with some shredded cheese & spinach along with toast with peanut butter on it (unless she had that earlier than I skip that). Brooke also loves oatmeal, blueberries, & sausage. We switch it up 🙂
After breakfast we play, read books, go on walks if it’s nice outside. We go on bike rides now too with it being spring, which Brooke LOVES and it allows me to get in a great workout, too! Pretty much between breakfast time and the next nap time, which is around 12:30/1pm we have time together. I try to cherish every minute. Some days, of course, are harder than others depending on Brooke’s mood and/or the weather, but overall we have a lot of fun together. Some days we go grocery shopping, sometimes it’s a Target trip, some days it’s both. Other days we have play dates with other moms/kids which is fun! We really try to get out of the house, while not over doing it at the same time. I try to give Brooke a good balance of independent play and socialization as well.
Around 11:30am/12 we have lunch. Brooke pretty much eats anything I eat at this point, which is awesome! We will have tacos, chicken nuggets, spaghetti, green beans, rice, noodles, Italian sausage from a pizza, you name it, Brooke will eat it! Right now a favorite are avocados.
12:30pm/1pm- Brooke lays down for a nap. I try to be home for her naps, too. Some days if we are biking or on a walk I will let her take her nap in the stroller/Burley biker, but most days we are home for nap time 🙂 I have read a lot of “sleeping” books for babies and toddlers, and most doctors recommend that the best deep sleep happens when they are in their beds and not in the car/stroller/etc. BUT, life is about balance, so I switch it up!
Brooke will nap 1-2 hours for her afternoon nap. It depends how long her morning nap was. Longer the morning nap, shorter the afternoon nap and vice versa. During nap time, I meal prep, start dinner, do laundry, dishes, check emails and messages, take care of the dogs, clean the house if it needs it (which if you have dogs, kids, and a husband, it needs it everyday all day). Needless to say, time flies!
2:30/3pm- Brooke wakes up. We have a snack (fruit, veggie straws, gold fish, etc. )and a bottle around 4pm. We typically will play in the house or go outside for a walk and/or playground outside if nice out! Brooke LOVES the swings. Brooke will be up now until bedtime at 6:30/7pm.
5pm- Dinner time. This usually consists of a protein and veggie. I will be sharing some meal ideas for tots in another post soon 🙂
5:30/5:45- Bath time. We usually give Brooke a bath every other night, if not every night. It’s calming for her and gets her ready for “bed-time.” Plus, she has so much hair and always gets some kind of food in it from the day, LOL.
6:15pm- We get pj’s on, give her a bottle, and read some books to her to calm her down for bedtime.
6:30/7pm- Bed time. We put her in her Zipadee-Zip (check out my FB and/or IG page for more info on the sleeping sack we use if curious) and lay her down.
Once Brooke is sleeping, then it’s time for cleaning up the house and washing all the bottles/sippy cups for the next day. I usually do some work and then take time to relax with my husband 🙂
Much love, Kiersten
