Learning to be Content

Do you ever feel like you go through phases in life where you feel you’re just waiting for something? Then when that “something” happens, you enjoy it, yet quickly move onto the next thing or moment of “waiting.” Learning to be content is one of life’s hardest skills to learn. It’s something I personally struggle with.

When we were trying to get pregnant with our now 9 month old baby girl, I felt like it took FOREVER. It really only took us 5 months (which I know for some women that’s not long at all) but when you’re the one “waiting” it can feel like an eternity! Then when the news came we were pregnant, I was so excited!! Now some days go by, and I feel like I don’t give our baby girl 100% of the attention she deserves cause I am too preoccupied with something else. I’m learning to prioritize my day better. I’m learning to be more present than perfect. We prayed for our baby girl, and now that is she here, I pray I remember to cherish each moment with her (cause man does it go by fast!!).

It’s easy to keep pushing on to the next thing or to over load your schedule with more than you can handle. I’m guilty of this myself. Don’t get me wrong, it’s good to have goals & dreams. It’s when those goals and dreams take over the precious moments right in front of you that it becomes an issue.

So, if you’re like me, and can struggle to find a balance in your schedule and learning to be content with where your life currently sits, that’s ok. It’s a work in progress. What helps me is to have someone hold me accountable. I have such an amazing core group of family & friends that call me out on things when I do too much. Find yourself someone like that. We need community and each other in order to better ourselves through this crazy life.

Being content is being happy with your current life’s situation. Enjoy the things around you, because at some point they were the “thing” you’ve always wanted.

Much love, Kiersten
