A Fantastic Family Water Park Experience

The Wilderness Resort & Golf Course

Wisconsin Dells WaterPark Capital of the World

A Fantastic Family Water Park Experience

This is simply one of the best family water parks. “I don’t want to go!” My two-and-a-half-year-old daughter yells as we start packing up. None of us wanted to leave. We truly had a BLAST at the Wilderness Resort in Wisconsin Dells. Hands down a water park you must visit! When they say it’s the WaterPark Capital of the World, they aren’t lying. It truly was. We stayed in a double queen suite at the Wilderness for a long weekend. We all could have stayed a week!

The Wilderness water park provides something to do for all ages. We have a nine-month-old and a two- and-half-year-old, and we all had fun. Wilderness provides four indoor water parks and four outdoor water parks. Since we went in early March, only the indoor parks are open. The indoor parks are The Wild WaterDome, The Wild West Waterpark, The Klondike Kavern, and Cubby’s Cove. Our family’s personal favorites were the Wild WaterDome and The Wild West Waterpark, but we also had a lot of fun at Klondike Kavern.

The Wild Water Dome is a 70,000-square-foot energy-efficient Foil Tec roofed water park that makes you feel like you are outside at the beach. You will want to bring sunscreen! This water park also features “The Great Wave,” which creates ocean-like waves up to 5 feet tall! This was so fun! Our whole family enjoyed “riding the waves.” Within this same water park area is a separate spot for little kids. It had a large interactive kids play area with two smaller slides which were perfect for Brooke! This area is designed more for toddlers and younger children. Brooke spent hours going up and down the slides, while Nolan played in the shallow area and small water spouts. We felt this water park was the best place to meet all our family’s needs.

They also have an adults only hot tub area with a swim up Margarita Bar. Need I say more? 😉 On our last day we rented a Cabana in this water park, and it was AMAZING. You can order food and have it be delivered to you, take some time away from the heat and cool off, but the best part—Nolan napped while we could still enjoy “being at the beach,” enjoy our margaritas, and trade off going swimming with Brooke. It honestly felt like we were at the beach. So if you’re going with young napping aged kids, my advice, get a cabana for a day! You’ll thank me later 🙂

The Wild West Waterpark we went to on our first night. This park is 70,000 square feet and offers a wide variety of things to do. My kiddos loved the slides, the swings, and watching the older kids get water dumped on them since this park has a 750-gallon cart-tipping bucket that spills water every 3 minutes. This water park also has a tube slide with a 45-foot drop, called the Black Hole, and a six-level, freestanding play structure, called Ransack Ridge with two body slides. Brooke liked the smaller of the two slides.

The Wild West also has bumper boats, 4-speed slides, and an indoor/outdoor hot spa. Nolan loved going on the swings, while Brooke went down the slide right next to us. We also ordered a pizza and you can sit and eat right by the little kiddy area. Worked out great! This place would be fun to go back to once our kids are older. I have a feeling they would love to try out the bumper boats!

If you’re a lazy river person, then The Klondike Kavern is for you! This was one of my personal favorites. This is in the middle of the resort and has the best lazy river. It’s 400-feet and goes around the whole park. Brooke and I went around many times together. This place is a 65,000 square-foot waterpark. It has the tallest indoor 4-person raft ride called “The Hurricane,” two 500-foot slide boarding rides, a 180-foot body slide, and a family-friendly play structure in the middle of the lazy river. Brooke liked to go up and down the double-sided 4-foot slide.

Last, but not least is Cubby’s Cove. This is a 35,000 square-foot indoor park that is mostly engaged for younger kids and toddlers. It features a multi-level kids’ play structure, smaller slides, an indoor/outdoor hot spa, and a water basketball area. We didn’t spend time here since it’s located off-site at The Wilderness on the Lake. We chose to stay where we could just walk through the skyways. With a baby, it was the easiest for us.

Needless to say, there are SO many options for all ages. We had so much fun with all the different water activities, we wish we could have stayed longer! Four outdoor water parks open once the weather is warm, and we have already talked about going back in the summer! That means there is a total of nearly 500,000 square-feet of endless water fun!

Outside the water parks, The Wilderness offered many other fantastic services. We stocked up on chocolates and candies at Candy Cabin by Camp Social. They even had some treats to bring back home to your fur babies. Camp Social was also the place I went to get this momma a mimosa & espresso every morning—both were fantastic! They also have a breakfast buffet, lunch, and dinner buffet. Camp Social is a new addition, added at the start of 2020. We also enjoyed some tasty burgers, pizza, and fish tacos from the various restaurants located throughout the resort. There was yummy frozen yogurt bar right, Yukon Yogurt, above the Klondike water park, too & several fun bars scattered throughout each water park. The food was good, and the margaritas even better!

Other Attractions:

Outside of food, The Wilderness offers laser tag, THREE mega arcades, a new “Take Flight” aerial adventure ride (which opened in Sept. 2020), Twister, Titanic and Circus Room Escapes, Mini Golf, Go-Karts, Polka Dot Pots Paint Your Own Pottery, Northern Light Sky Ropes Course, Timberland Play Park (which was closed due to COVID), and Wildkids Club. These are all things we will be trying once our kids are older! The amount of fun offered at The Wilderness is endless—-we didn’t even get close to trying it all! Truly a fun family getaway, and a weekend was simply not enough time! We will absolutely be coming back. This place will be a spot that will be on our family’s yearly trip list. Needless to say, The Wilderness is a MUST visit place!

Just in! The Wilderness will now be launching a fun new movie in their “Take Flight” aerial adventure ride. See details below.

MAJOR UPDATE Friends! As of Fall 2022— The Wilderness is undergoing some crazy amazing upgrades. I can’t wait to go back after 🙂 Here is a sneak peak at what will be happening:

Wild West Waterpark Renovations

The Wild West Waterpark will be undergoing a major renovation starting in late spring 2022 with an expected full completion by late fall 2022. Once completed, the waterpark will have two incredible new slides and a new Wild West themed multi-level play and spray structure, among many other improvements. One of the new slides will be a two-lane dueling tube ride while the other will be a two-lane dueling, head-first mat racer. Both slides will feature eye popping translucent slide effects as well as multiple “rally points” where riders will be able to see their competition as they dash down the slides.

The resort’s popular Fantastic Voyage and Black Hole slides currently in the Wild West will remain.

Guest Room Renovations

The resort is also planning complete room renovations to all of its 446 guest rooms at the Wilderness Hotel. Among the planned changes, the rooms will be getting new paint, carpet, flooring, countertops, furniture, artwork, and televisions. Renovations will begin in April and will be completed in late 2022.

New Films at Take Flight theater

In January, Take Flight unveiled Flight of Aloha. It takes riders on a cultural exploration that prior to now has only be reserved for Hawaiian Royalty. The film showcases the historical significance of the Valley Isle while highlighting its natural beauty. It reveals untouched and remote destinations all captured in the highest definition for realism.

For summer, the resort will be unveiling World Flight, which will take people on a journey flying over and around some the world’s most noteworthy locations. It will include the London Eye and Tower Bridge; the Sydney Harbor in Australia, the Parthenon and Colosseum in Rome, Reykjavik in Iceland, the Matterhorn in the Alps and Big Sur on the California coastline.

Sensory enhancements like wind, a motion seats and scents complete both of these films immersive experiences.

MISSION: MARS will take participants on a journey to Mars to recover the 2004 NASA Rover Opportunity’s memory box and to repair the rover (which has gone silent since 2018). Participants will have just 30 minutes to complete the challenge before a solar storm arrives.
